The vibrant streets of Tenerife’s capital will soon be bustling with scooters in the coming quarter, strategically stationed across the city’s five districts equipped with advanced geolocation systems for enhanced monitoring.
The Mobility sector of the Santa Cruz City Council has granted contracts to Tier Mobility and Ridedott to introduce a minimum of 50% of the planned fleet, comprising 1,292 units of Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs), within the next three months.
Both entities are initially authorised to deploy 646 units each, which will be spread out across the city’s districts, correlating with the designated number of parking spots in the municipality, as elucidated by Councillor Evelyn Alonso.
Scooters and Parking Distribution per District
- Anaga district will feature nine parking spots for 48 scooters
- Centro-Ifara will accommodate 63 spaces and 448 units
- Ofra-Costa Sur will have 43 slots and 172 PMVs
- Salud-La Salle will offer 67 parking spaces for 392 scooters
- The Southwest district is scheduled to have 58 spots for 232 scooters
Nevertheless, the Mobility Councillor has not ruled out the possibility of relocating parking spaces if deemed necessary for optimal placement, acknowledging the enduring presence of these personal transportation solutions.
The City Council has ratified the seven regulations governing scooter usage and will intensify public awareness campaigns on responsible usage.
