The City Council of La Laguna has granted the project Smart Stops for the vicinity of Taco and La Cuesta, involving the supply, installation, and activation of over twenty intelligent shelters to enhance safety and accessibility for public transport users in these localities.
Additionally, the plan includes the incorporation of parking areas for bicycles and scooters. The main goal of this endeavour is to foster eco-friendly transportation in La Laguna, as opposed to the prevalent use of private cars, which currently constitute up to 60% of the trips taken on the island.
To accomplish this, Sitelec Global de Servicios y Obras SL, the appointed company, will have a five-month timeframe for implementation with a budget of 2,803,657 euros. A total of 26 bus shelters and 88 parking spaces for bicycles and scooters will be set up (44 modules with a capacity of two spaces each).
In this context, the materials utilised for the construction of these intelligent stops and parking facilities for bicycles and scooters will be eco-friendly, aiming to enhance energy efficiency. Another aim of this project is to diminish emissions and reduce the overall carbon footprint generated.
