SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29th Feb (EUROPA PRESS) –
The mayor of Fasnia, Luis González, has issued a directive to manage water consumption and ensure a stable supply to residents due to the island’s ongoing water crisis caused by recent prolonged dry spells.
The Tenerife Council is set to ratify a declaration of water scarcity this Friday, anticipating a difficult summer ahead as the reservoirs are at only 39% capacity, a steep decline from last year when levels were above 70% by February.
Consequently, there will be restrictions on the irrigation water supply originating from the ‘Bonifacio Manuel Díaz Díaz’ reservoir – available only on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; new registrations for irrigation water meters will not be accepted; prohibiting the use of potable water for agricultural purposes; no domestic car washing – permitted only at petrol stations; filling of swimming pools; washing facades; and using showers at the beaches.
