SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29th February (EUROPA PRESS) –
In the evening of Wednesday, the Talía Maritime Rescue Guard saved a boat carrying 43 migrants – all male and of sub-Saharan descent – in waters close to El Hierro island, as informed by the governmental institution and the Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security of 112 in the Canary Islands.
The boat was spotted approximately 90.1 kilometres (56 miles) south of El Hierro and was rescued by the Talía maritime guard, with support from the Helimer 206 plane during the rescue operation.
The maritime guard then transferred all the migrants to the La Restinga dock, where they received assistance from the local health services, including personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), Primary Care, and the Red Cross. One of the migrants in critical condition had to be evacuated to a hospital for further treatment.
