“We were waiting for you”. The opening statement of the Employment Councillor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Efraín Medina, sets the tone for the Tenerife Avanza NOE (New Employment Opportunities) 2023-2024 programme. Medina addressed a large part of the 192 individuals – 12 mentors, 3 support staff, and 177 trainees – with diverse professional backgrounds who are joining various island areas for a period of six to ten months. The new workers were greeted in the auditorium of the Recinto Ferial. Alongside Medina, who thanked them and wished them an “exciting” year, the President of the Corporation, Rosa Dávila, and the Vice President, Lope Afonso, led the event.
“Double benefit.” Rosa Dávila mentioned a “forest team that I have heard very good things about” as she extended her greetings to “the 192 new colleagues who are completing their training and doing their internships at the Cabildo”. She believes that “this is a good opportunity to enter the job market and, later on, start their own business or aim for a public or private job”. She was pleased to see “many girls” among the attendees. The president emphasized a dual benefit. Firstly, for the youth, “who will gain experiences and enhance their resumes so they can enter the job market for the first time”. Secondly, for the Cabildo de Tenerife itself, as “there are many services that will benefit positively from these young people joining their areas”.
The four ‘E’s of Afonso. The Vice President, Lope Afonso, highlighted that “the time spent gaining experience by providing services to the Cabildo will strengthen their capabilities and opportunities, in addition to the importance of entrepreneurship, when this experience ends”. He delved into what he referred to as the four key Es in this process: “Employment, experience, effort, and entrepreneurship”.
Efraín Medina, on his part, emphasized the importance of a programme that promotes employment and continuous training for many young people facing their first work experience.
6.1 million euros. The total investment of the project amounts to 6.1 million euros and lasts for 13 months from its start on December 29, 2023, to its completion on January 28, 2025. The project. Tenerife Avanza con NOE 2023-2024 aims to hire unemployed individuals registered as job seekers with the Canarian Employment Service, in the form of a training contract to obtain professional practice. This is a way to promote the fight against unemployment and socio-labour integration, while also contributing to the development of projects of general interest by the benefiting public entities. The initiative is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus and the Canarian Employment Service. At the end of the event, before the traditional group photo, President Dávila spontaneously exclaimed: “And now, let’s get to work”.
