The recent announcement from the La Laguna City Council states that the registration period for the revitalization programme “Women on the Beach” is now open until 8th March. This initiative targets women over the age of 55 residing in the municipality.
Those interested can secure their spot through the following website link: https://sede.aytolalaguna.es/publico/procedimiento/190 or by visiting any registry office of the La Laguna City Council. Alternatively, registrations can also be done through the network of Social Work Units (UTS) until 5th March.
Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, highlighted the overwhelming success of this programme in past years, with registrations quickly filling up. This success is credited to the diverse activities offered by the programme team to encourage healthy habits among this age group and establish new leisure activities that foster social connections among participants.
María Cruz, Lagunera’s councilor for Social Welfare and Quality of Life, shared that “this initiative serves a multifaceted purpose, positively impacting the overall health of the community, introducing new leisure opportunities, and boosting citizens’ self-esteem.”
Furthermore, this edition will feature beach gymnastics activities to enhance muscle mass, prevent conditions like hypertension, osteoarthritis, and particularly obesity. The agenda will also include craft workshops and other activities designed to improve focus and mental agility, Cruz highlighted.
Two Distinct Groups
It is important to note that the “Women on the Beach” programme is free of charge, providing transportation and adapted activities with qualified instructors at Las Teresitas beach four days a week. A total of 1,210 spots are available, divided into two groups with each group engaging in activities twice a week.
