On Monday, a man confessed to unlawfully moving into a property owned by someone else and has been sentenced to a six-month prison term, with the condition that the sentence will be suspended if he maintains a clean record for the next two years. Additionally, he has been fined 290 euros for the damage caused to the property’s lock.
The case was heard in the Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the involved parties eventually reached a settlement agreement even though a jury had been convened just moments earlier, as required for such cases.
Initially, the Prosecutor’s Office had requested a sentence of one year and three months in prison along with a fine of 389 euros, but a compromise was reached, leading to reduced penalties.
According to the version accepted by the defence presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the accused unlawfully entered the property owned by three siblings on unspecified dates and stayed there until he was forcefully removed.
The property was primarily used by one of the siblings’ daughters and her family during weekends and holidays, with the latter eventually becoming the legal owner after purchasing it from the relatives who were the initial owners.
The jury trial, initially intended to run until Wednesday, concluded earlier due to the reached agreement.
