Marking the International Day of the Girl in Science, the educational community of IES Santa Ana and local residents of Candelaria gathered at the CtCan (Candelaria Technology Center) to honour exceptional professionals who have excelled in the realms of science and technology.
The distinguished figures at this event were geoarchaeologist Carolina Mallol Duque, architect Desirée Ramos Rodríguez Ramos, chemist Ruth Rodríguez, and Natividad García Mesa. These remarkable women shared insights into their professional accomplishments with the audience.
Mayor Mari Brito and Equality Councillor Olivia Pérez not only stood out in their official capacities but also shared their personal experiences as a mathematician and nurse, respectively. Both leaders commended the talent and dedication of the scientists, as well as the students’ commitment.
The event featured the presence of scientific journalist Verónica Martín Jiménez, who kickstarted the proceedings on Candelaria Radio. Martín discussed her career challenges and learnings while underscoring the significance of effectively communicating science to educate and inform the public.
Students from IES Santa Ana actively engaged in the event, taking their radio project along and conducting interviews with the four professionals. The commemoration of the International Day of the Girl in Science in Candelaria shed light on the essential role of women in the scientific domain, inspiring young minds to explore and pursue their passions in this captivating field of knowledge.
