In various cities in Spain, a new wave of protests has emerged urging an immediate halt to the ongoing tragedy in Palestine. The calls also demand an end to the arms trade and diplomatic relations with Israel. In La Laguna, Tenerife, a march was held from Plaza del Cristo to Plaza de La Concepción, where a statement was publicly read. The Palestinian community in the Canary Islands actively participated in the event, alongside performances by talented singer-songwriters. The organisers have strongly condemned the current situation as a state of extreme emergency, highlighting the devastating bombings in the city of Rafá in the south of the Gaza Strip. This has led to the forced displacement of 1.5 million people.
The relentless siege and the continuous massacres over the past four months have resulted in tens of thousands of casualties – people have been killed, injured, maimed, abducted, or vanished under the debris caused by the relentless airstrikes targeting universities, schools, hospitals, and vital infrastructure. These bombings have also claimed the lives of essential personnel and jeopardised international aid efforts. It is evident, as the organisers point out, that the ultimate goal of Netanyahu’s criminal government is to ethnically cleanse the Palestinian population, advancing apartheid policies to evict and occupy their homes and lands, colonising Gaza and other territories.
