The strong swell hitting the coast of Tenerife this Saturday has caused damage to the natural pools in Bajamar and forced the La Orotava Town Hall to close access to its beaches.
Additionally, the Candelaria Town Hall has decided to cancel the Murgas Contest in Canarias as well as all scheduled events for this Saturday due to the strong wind impact, coastal phenomena alert.
In Garachico, to ensure the safety of everyone and avoid economic losses, the Council has decided to postpone the Carnival celebration except for the school parade that took place this Friday.
The Government of Canarias, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared the coastal phenomena alert situation from 20:00 on Friday throughout the Archipelago.
As reported by the regional government, this is a decision based on the forecast of Aemet and other available sources, and in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan of Canarias for Adverse Weather Phenomena Risks (PEFMA).
The swell could reach, momentarily, heights of four to six meters on coasts open to the north and west of the islands. The 112 advises against going to docks, breakwaters, or near the sea. There’s a risk of waves dragging curious onlookers.
Authorities recommend following the recommendations of town halls and security agencies on social media platforms to prevent personal harm.
