The Teide National Park is one of nature’s greatest treasures that can be found not only in Canary Islands or in Spain, but in all of Europe. A space full of unique endemism on the continent, and lately has made headlines due to the lack of care by some individuals who climb to the summit of Tenerife.
A tourist, who describes himself on his Instagram as a “creative hippie”, came to the Island with his bicycle to explore the most famous spots of Tenerife, without concerning himself with the rules and obligations in a place as unique as Teide.
In several of his posts, it can be seen how he set up a tent at different points on the summit, even in a protected area, along with his bicycle, braving the cold. This has been reported by various users of X, the former Twitter, who have been upset by the repeated disrespect of different individuals climbing to the highest point in Spain.

Furthermore, apart from camping, he can be seen riding his bicycle on different paths that are not allowed, as “bicycle traffic in the Teide National Park is only allowed on the park’s roads,” as pointed out by a user.
[–>To top off the trio of negligence, among all his photos and videos taken in Tenerife, there is one where a camping gas stove can be seen in operation. With the 2023 summer fire still fresh in the minds of all Canary Islanders, such behaviour can only be explained by the lack of awareness and apathy of many individuals who visit the National Park.

Several users have tagged official profiles of the Island, such as the Natural Environment Management Area of Tenerife Council or the Teide National Park, with the aim of making them aware of these situations. Solutions are needed for such acts that, with easy viralization on social media, can have a ripple effect.
