The Consortium for the Prevention and Extinguishing of Fires and Rescue of Tenerife will activate the temporary fire station in Guía de Isora during the summer, as announced by the Island Council on Wednesday.
In a statement, Blanca Pérez, the Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, emphasizes that this measure will enhance fire services in the western part of the island, resulting in quicker responses to emergencies.
Pérez notes that the construction of new stations involves longer time frames, hence the decision to open the temporary station in Tejina de Guía with a team of four firefighters, a Heavy Urban Pump (BUP), and a rescue vehicle (URE).
According to Pérez, the investment in infrastructure, personnel, vehicles, and equipment for 2024 amounts to approximately 2.1 million euros, signifying a significant budget allocation towards staffing, infrastructure enhancement, and equipment renewal.
Iván Martín, the island’s Director of Security and Emergencies, mentions ongoing efforts to improve and refurbish existing stations and to identify locations for new ones, such as in Arona. Additionally, multiple selection processes are underway to fill current positions and expand into new areas.
Martín also highlights the commitment to gradually renew the current fleet of vehicles, primarily trucks of the BUP type, and to purchase units for the new stations.
