The Urban Planning Management of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has issued a penalty of £15,001 for a severe violation to the individual responsible for leasing shelters on a rooftop of a building in the capital, as announced yesterday by the area’s councillor, Zaida González.
The councillor clarified that, “despite the removal of the booths, the woman who oversaw this covert business will face consequences.”
According to City Hall sources, all the rooftop shelters, where five people, including a mother and her two children of Italian descent, resided, have been taken down. They had been lodging in the property, which has been rented out for years through the holiday rental platform Airbnb, for £12 per night.
Additionally, the municipal Social Services are not aware of any issues impacting the minors in question, although the council stated that they are “prepared to intervene if necessary.”
Recently, the owner of the second floor, who allegedly orchestrated the leasing, was instructed to cease the rooftop operations at a building on Castellón de la Plana street, following a complaint from a neighbour that extended over a year and a half.
