The Tacoronte local authority, in collaboration with Ferrovial, is undertaking a project to address the issue of inadequate lighting in the central urban and sports park, Hoya Machado, situated behind the City Hall, between V Centenario and Teobaldo Power streets. With a budget of approximately 28,000 euros, the municipal administration aims to activate the 54 existing streetlights across the park, along with installing new lighting points for the dog park and calisthenics area. The row of lights along Teobaldo Power Street, previously used for parking, will now be periodically connected throughout the year, coinciding with events in Plaza del Cristo and the surroundings. The deficiencies in this downtown green space have prompted the prioritization of modernizing public lighting in the area. Suso Machado, the Councilor for Public Lighting, asserts that this initiative is a response to the longstanding demands of users and residents. The plan has been in the works since last October, in close coordination with the Department of Works and Services. Machado anticipates the park’s lighting to be operational before summer, highlighting its importance in enhancing the appeal and safety of this recreational area. The City Council is concurrently working on other improvements, including the imminent enhancement of public lighting in neighbourhoods such as El Pris, Barranco Las Lajas, El Cantillo, and Agua García.
