SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th February (EUROPA PRESS) –
In the early hours of Sunday, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Local Police intercepted a group of five young people, aged between 18 and 23, at the Transportation Interchange parking lot. The youths were causing damage to a motorcycle and were found in possession of a dozen containers used to distribute nitrous oxide, commonly known as ‘laughing gas’, as reported by The Communications Office of the Local Police.
Upon their arrival at the scene, the Local Police identified the individuals and conducted a superficial search which led to the discovery of the nitrous oxide bottles and balloons used for its distribution. Additionally, two of the youths were found with 980 euros, the origin of which they could not prove.
The seized items included the bottles and balloons, a device for inflating them, and a knife. Legal procedures were initiated and records were processed for the possession of the substance and the knife.
‘Laughing gas’ can have detrimental health effects, as described by the National Drug Plan. Despite the initial euphoria and well-being it generates, it can result in fainting and, in severe cases, respiratory arrest. The rapidly absorbed gas can cause a drop in blood pressure leading to myocardial infarction or hypoxia due to oxygen deprivation.
