Currently, there are 42 abandoned vehicles left parked on public roads in Puerto de la Cruz. Retrieving these vehicles seems nearly unattainable as only 26 out of 68 actions on abandoned vehicles conducted last year resulted in voluntary removal by their owners, as indicated by municipal sources.

In 2023, the Local Police have initiated 19 files for the proper disposal of abandoned vehicles on public roads, under the regulations of article 86 of Law 18/2009 of November 23. This allows the authorities to dispose of the abandoned vehicles.

Following extensive neighborhood inquiries, police database checks, and thorough investigations, 26 abandoned cars have been voluntarily removed from the public roads. Currently, the Local Police is processing measures for another 42 abandoned vehicles parked on the municipality’s public roads, awaiting either proper disposal or voluntary removal by their owners.

The government appreciates citizen collaboration through the Green Line application, which has a dedicated section for reporting potential cases of abandoned cars.

Although the current count has reduced compared to the previous two years, with 40 cars removed in the first half of 2021 and 108 in 2022 (excluding December), the situation remains a concern.
