LA LAGUNA (TENERIFE), 19th February (EUROPA PRESS) –
Today, the La Laguna City Council has urged the Tenerife Island Government to arrange a technical meeting to coordinate the forthcoming closure of the Guamasa link with the TF-5 and the necessary road improvement works, while ensuring that the affected residents are informed.
The council emphasizes that the government is “keen” to find effective solutions to the transport issues in the northern part of the island and acknowledges the efforts being made by the Island Government.
They also highlight that the report from the Provincial Traffic Headquarters concurs with the City Council, stating explicitly that the closure of the TF-5 “must be complemented by additional measures on alternative routes for it to be truly effective.”
In this context, they acknowledge that “merely displacing the problem from one area to another” would be nonsensical, and instead advocate for comprehensive measures with a holistic view of the region to avoid simply “shifting the issue” to the residents of the entire Northeast Region.
Consequently, the City Council insists on implementing “comprehensive measures” to enhance transportation in the northern part of the island, which includes projects like the TF-5 bypass, the tunneling of the highway as it passes through La Laguna, the pedestrian pathway at the Padre Anchieta roundabout, and the construction of the La Gorgolana tunnel, among other initiatives.
