“The La Laguna City Council is highly committed to finding effective solutions to the transportation issues in the North of Tenerife,” expressed the Aguere City Council. They also “positively assess” the actions carried out by the Island Council to alleviate the traffic congestion on the TF-5. They added that the report from the Provincial Traffic Headquarters “validates our stance” when it explicitly states that the closure of the TF-5 “requires complementary measures on alternative routes to be truly effective.”
La Laguna understands that “it wouldn’t make sense to shift the problem from one place to another – that is, from the highway to the Guamasa road and consequently to the residents of the Northeast region. Instead, measures with a comprehensive vision of the area should be implemented.” They urge the Island Council to “promptly hold a technical meeting to collaboratively work on the planned actions in the municipality” and “keep the affected residents informed” about the measures.
The council argues that a comprehensive approach to transportation in the Northern part of the Island “should include,” among other things, major projects such as the TF-5 bypass; the underground passage of the Northern highway as it passes through La Laguna; the pedestrian overpass at the Padre Anchieta roundabout, “initiated by the previous island government,” and the construction of the Gorgolana tunnel, crossing Mesa Mota and heading to Tegueste. All of this is essential “to alleviate one of the main bottlenecks in our road network.”
