The Cabildo of Tenerife has issued an advance payment of 6.8 million euros to Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes), as per the agreement between both parties, for the progression of hydraulic projects aimed at putting an end to wastewater discharges on the island.
The President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, and Vice President Lope Afonso, announced the decisions of the Government Council on Thursday, which include this measure. “We are steadfast in our efforts to achieve zero discharge and today we have approved this amount. Since the outset, we have placed significant emphasis on sanitation and water purification measures, and it is imperative to align with the municipalities,” noted Rosa Dávila.
The President highlighted that the Government Council also approved the purchase, by the Tenerife Water Island Council, of a portion of land in the Güímar Industrial Estate for the expansion of the Güímar Valley Hydraulic Complex, “a pivotal infrastructure serving and benefiting the municipalities of Candelaria, Arafo and Güímar.”
Rosa Dávila also noted the extension of fiber optics along the TF-12 (Anaga ridge) to reach the Montes de Anaga Hostel and the Pico del Inglés Viewpoint. This project entails an investment of approximately 173,000 euros and will be executed by the joint venture Conacon-Sando Fibra Óptica.
Meanwhile, Lope Afonso stated that the Government Council endorsed the allocation to the Tourism, Foreign Action, and Institutional Relations department for the formulation of an Island Program for Tourism Strategy and Regeneration (PIER) for the period 2024-2027.
“The program seeks to allocate the budget ensuring intervention in all the tourist municipalities of the Island, avoid redundancy and overlap with responsibilities managed by other departments, and achieve synchronisation with the planned investments from the island’s municipalities and with funding and subsidies from other public administrations,” explained Afonso.
