Instances of animal cruelty in Tenerife are on the rise. In less than 24 hours, it was revealed that a resident of Santa Cruz had left four dogs tied up, exposed to the sun without any shelter, and surrounded by excrement and urine for over two hours.
Moreover, in the municipality of Güímar, the carcass of a large-sized dog was found earlier this week on the La Planta road, next to the junction with the Samarines road, near the TF-1.
Now, the dog training centre La Trailla has reported a vicious attack that occurred in Granadilla de Abona. A concerned citizen alerted the discovery of a dog in a waste container on Tuesday.
The dog, a hound, was enclosed in a bag with a rope around its neck. According to the centre, the dog had a severe skull fracture that necessitated immediate transfer for potential surgery.
The Granadilla Local Police are conducting an investigation to identify the individual responsible, who is suspected to be a hunter. “The police report and the veterinarian’s findings will be forwarded to initiate necessary proceedings,” cautioned La Trailla.
They have also appealed for public assistance in providing shelter for the animal until it can be potentially adopted. Those interested can send a message to 619 099 281.
