Next week, a man will face trial at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for allegedly causing minor injuries to two women and attempting to murder a baby.
The Prosecutor’s Office is seeking 5 years in prison for the attempted murder charge, confinement in a psychiatric centre for seven and a half years, and a prohibition from approaching the minor for an additional five years.
For the other two crimes, there would be a total of 312 euros in fines and civil liabilities of 100 and 500 euros respectively for each of the victims.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office acknowledges that at the time of the events, the defendant’s mental capacities were partially affected due to a decompensation derived from his paranoid schizophrenia.
For this reason, it requests that the incomplete mitigating circumstance of psychological disorder and the aggravating circumstance of treachery be taken into account in the case of the two surprise attacks on the women.
The events unfolded as the defendant was walking down a street in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and encountered a family pushing a baby stroller with a one-year-old child inside.
As the stroller was blocking his path, the man unexpectedly lifted it into the air and shook it, and when the baby cried, he moved it even more forcefully.
The Prosecutor’s Office believes that the accused was fully aware of the risk of death posed by this behavior, despite which he attempted to throw the stroller with the child onto the road where vehicles were travelling.
The mother managed to prevent the accused from throwing the stroller with the child, and he was held by the father until the arrival of the police.
Days earlier, the accused grabbed a woman waiting for a bus at a stop, with the intention of causing harm to her, and threw her to the ground, resulting in injuries that required three days to heal.
On a separate occasion, the man punched a woman in the face while she was walking with two friends, causing her to fall unconscious and sustain injuries that took ten days to heal.
