As part of the Ex. DRAGO 24 and BETA I/24 exercises, the units of the Canary Islands Command are undergoing training at the San Gregorio Training Centre (Zaragoza) during the first fortnight of this month. Their chief, General Salom, accompanied by General Esteban, the head of the Canary Islands XVI Brigade, has conducted an inspection visit to these exercises to personally assess the progress of the units in their preparation and ensure they are meeting the set objectives.
On one hand, the DRAGO exercise, based on the Field Artillery Group (GACA I/93) belonging to the 93rd Field Artillery Regiment of the Canary Islands Brigade, garrisoned in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is carrying out its annual projection of artillery pieces and live firing exercise.

On the other hand, the BETA I/24 exercise combines the capabilities of the Albuera Motorized Infantry Battalions and Filipinas, belonging to the Tenerife 49 and Palma 47 Infantry Regiments respectively, to achieve their main objective of training in defensive operations by alternating fire and movement.
Both exercises involve a significant effort to deploy almost seven hundred soldiers and two hundred and fifty vehicles.

In addition, during his inspection, General Salom was able to observe the initial actions of the next contingent that will deploy to Iraq this year.
Finally, the Chief of the Canary Islands Command, in a “simple” and emotional military ceremony, awarded the First Class Corporal insignia to the recently promoted personnel of “Tenerife 49.”
