Authored by Doris Carballo.| Amidst the whirlwind of the chicharrera festival, which will conclude next Sunday, the 18th, one municipality on the Island deserves special recognition for achieving up to five accolades at these Carnivals – Los Realejos.
Famously known as the town with the most celebrations in Spain, for the plethora of popular events that adorn its streets and its vibrant people, one of the most innovative in Tenerife, this year its representatives have etched their names in history in the various contests and categories of the Tenerife contest. Their successes proudly place the name of Los Realejos at the pinnacle.
The first accolades for the north of the Island were garnered at the finale of the Adult Murgas of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, held on January 26. Trapaseros, gold medallists in 2023, clinched a well-deserved second place in interpretation and the second prize for presentation, securing a podium finish for the second consecutive year.
In addition, at the same event, the renowned group Irónico, winners of the first prize for interpretation in the Northern murgas contest the previous year, triumphed on its 20th anniversary. They sneaked in among the winners, clinching an acting award in the capital for the first time. Their theme about equality will be remembered in history as they achieved the second prize.
In the Queen’s galas, the first honour came from royal designer Alexis Santana, who reached the pinnacle on January 28 at the Queen’s Children’s Gala with the fantasy My Favourite Little Time, worn on stage by Sofía Rodríguez Navarro. Similarly, at the Seniors’ Gala, royal director María Mercedes Hernández, with the fantasy Quiéreme, from the Nira Carnival Cultural Association, directed by royal director Arganda Lorenzo, was chosen as the third bridesmaid on January 31.
The crowning glory came on February 7 when Corina Mrazek González became the Queen of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, donning the spectacular fantasy El Mundo, by the acclaimed Tenerife designer Santi Castro, representing the Añaza Carrefour Shopping Center. Once again, she brought triumph to the municipality in the north of the Island.
Consequently, the young woman has realised several of her dreams in recent months: to reign in the Tenerife festivities par excellence, to obtain the title of Miss World International, and to be the Romera Mayor of her municipality of origin.
