Cristina Mata and Marcos Ascanio are the creators of the gourmet content shared by Canary Foodies. A couple of mathematicians born in La Orotava, in Tenerife, who, among other things, share their passion for fine cuisine.
“Our hobby is mutual and quite clear, enjoying gastronomy from all its aspects. In addition to this, we love to travel, especially to indulge in the typical dishes of the places we visit,” state Cristina and Marcos, who one day decided to share all the material that arose from their mutual hobby.
“This is how Canary Foodies was born three years ago, as something that did not intend to reach where it is at this moment,” they confess about a project that, despite amassing more than 35,000 followers on Instagram, remains a passion.
A “selfless” endeavour
“We are often asked if this is our job and therefore if we get paid for it. The answer is no. We believe it is important to emphasize that we produce Canary Foodies content with great humility and respect, knowing that it is not our profession and that we are not gastronomic critics,” affirm Marcos and Cristina, lovers of the cuisine made in the Archipelago.
Inaugural “Back and Forth” Gathering
“We are champions of Canary gastronomy; here we have a quality local product, an accompanying environment, and chefs who are committed to launching their projects in our land,” narrate the organizers of initiatives as special as the Inaugural “Back and Forth” Gathering, conceived to reciprocate what they receive when visiting the culinary centres of the Islands.
“This experience emerged as a tribute to the gastronomy professionals; we wanted the attendees to live the experience of being a foodie. Meaning that chefs, restaurant staff, or entrepreneurs in the sector would sit at the table and enjoy a menu designed and paired by us alongside other gastronomy enthusiasts. Hence the name,” they conclude.
