The City Council of Vilaflor de Chasna has successfully acquired a property, situated on Hermano Pedro Avenue, with a large 700 square meter plot, in the heart of the municipality. This property will serve as the future headquarters for the Vilaflor Socio-Health Centre of Chasna, a municipal asset confirmed by the socialist mayor Agustina Beltrán.
The entire cost of purchasing the property, amounting to 300,000 euros, has been financed by the Social Action, Inclusion, and Volunteering department (IASS) of the Cabildo de Tenerife. The municipal councilor emphasized, “We do not possess the financial resources for such a significant expenditure.”
“This is an essential facility for our municipality, providing a new, central, modern, and comfortable space that will enhance the quality of life for our elderly and their families,” explained Agustina Beltrán after the official signing with the property owner and notary.
Today, Vilaflor de Chasna is home to approximately 2,000 registered inhabitants, with over 40% of the population aged 65 and above, including more than two hundred individuals over ninety years old. Beltrán observed, “The majority of families prefer to have their elderly relatives close by, particularly here in Vilaflor, as the financial expense and distance make it difficult to accommodate them in regional centers or in Icod de los Vinos, with limited availability.”
The City Council of Chasna plans to repurpose the property, which was originally intended for establishing a supermarket but was subsequently stalled, into a social and health centre for day and residential care, along with other services. It will feature three floors and an attic, centrally located in the urban area of Vilaflor, in close proximity to the doctor’s office. “Acquiring a property or plot with these characteristics in the municipality is challenging, and this purchase has presented a significant opportunity to enhance the quality of life for our seniors and their families,” expressed Beltrán.
Beltrán also expressed gratitude towards “the councillor of the Cabildo for their support in financing the acquisition,” and anticipates that the socio-health centre will be operational and compliant with regulations by the conclusion of this mandate, specifically in 2027, as outlined by the mayor of Vilaflor de Chasna. “I aim to provide all the seniors with the opportunity to spend their final stage of life surrounded by family and friends, without having to leave Vilaflor,” affirmed Beltrán.
