Loro Parque is set to host the Annual European Association of Aquatic Mammals Symposium (EAAM) from 11th to 15th March. The event will bring together experts in various fields affecting these animals and will be a great opportunity for professionals from all corners of the continent to exchange knowledge, establish collaborative networks, and contribute to the advancement of their respective specializations.

The EAAM organizes this research symposium annually to share information about the results of scientific studies, advances in management or veterinary care, and other developments relevant to marine mammal professionals worldwide. The event combines keynote lectures with oral presentations, as well as posters and technical workshops aimed at strengthening direct cooperation in all fields of marine mammal science. Registration is open to all interested parties and can be done through the congress website, as indicated by the zoo in Puerto de la Cruz.

The knowledge gained during the symposium will be crucial for protecting the animals from the various threats they face in the wild. For example, the successful conservation efforts in dolphins will be addressed by combining studies in the wild and under human care.

A Diverse Program

The program for the symposium includes a wide variety of activities, from presentations by experts to social events and guided tours of Loro Parque’s facilities. The animal embassy is an accredited center with extensive experience in marine mammals. Caregivers, veterinarians, and researchers have worked closely with the specimens living in the zoo, acting as ambassadors for their counterparts in the wild by contributing to a better understanding of these animals by the public.

Loro Parque, with 50 years of history, is home to the largest and most diverse parrot reserve in the world, as well as species and ecosystems from all five continents. The institution, along with Loro Parque Foundation, is firmly committed to conserving biodiversity and reinforces the role of accredited modern zoological centers as protectors of endangered wildlife.

The Park has been awarded the Plaque and the Gold Medal for Tourism Merit by the Spanish Government, and the Gold Medal from the Government of the Canary Islands, among other accolades. Additionally, it has been recognized with the Prince Felipe Award for Business Excellence and the Humane Certified certification from American Humane, the largest animal welfare certification organization on the planet. To all this, the WAZA Sustainability Award is added, awarded by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) to the most sustainable zoo in the world.
