The La Compañía Youth House in Porís de Abona witnessed the unveiling of the Ecoáreas-mardetodo project on Friday. This groundbreaking project in the blue economy aims to revolutionize the usage and administration of coastal spaces by incentivising and advocating for sustainable and responsible practices and horizontal management. The presentation was presided over by the mayor, Olivia Delgado; the coast councillor, Laura Morales, alongside the second deputy mayor, Ariam Álvarez; the Environment Councillor, Miguel Beby, and the project technicians.
Ecoareas is a project spearheaded and funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, with co-financing from the Avanza Plan of the FEDER funds of the European Union. It is founded on three pillars: voluntary agreements, participation, and horizontal management and enjoys the support of the Arico City Council.
The mayor, Olivia Delgado, emphasised that “this project is a clear demonstration of our dedication to innovation and sustainability, addressing the administration of our coastal spaces from a blue economy perspective.” She added, “Our aim is to transform these spaces into areas that not only respect the environment but also encourage sustainable and responsible practices among our citizens and visitors.”
The Councillor for Local Development, Eudelia Pestano, underlined that “the implementation of the project is a stride towards solidifying a greener and more sustainable local economy.” She said, “From the Department of Local Development, we view this initiative as a unique opportunity to foster economic growth in a responsible manner, promoting practices that respect and safeguard our natural environment.”
