The Canary Island Airports Experience Record-Breaking January with Over 4.2 Million Passengers and More Than 37,300 Operations

The airports of Canarias saw 4,293,707 passengers and 37,315 operations last month, an 8.3% and 4.9% increase, respectively, compared to the previous year, solidifying this first period of 2024 as their best January ever.

Out of the total number of passengers in January, 4,255,811 were from commercial flights, with 1,496,988 on domestic flights, a 6.3% increase from January 2023, and 2,758,823 on international flights, surpassing last year’s figure by 9.9%.

Regarding air cargo, 2,654 tons of goods were transported, an 8.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Airport Traffic

The Gran Canaria Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in January with 1,291,168, representing a 7.2% increase from the same month in 2023. It was followed by Tenerife South Airport, with 1,205,932 passengers, a 10.3% increase.

The César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport recorded 671,415 passengers (+6.9%); Fuerteventura, 508,548 (+7.1%); Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, 471,736 (+8.1%); La Palma, 115,440 (+14.2%, the highest percentage increase); El Hierro, 21,867 (+10.2%); and La Gomera, 7,601 (+13%).
