SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th February. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Merkarte Christmas 2023-2024, an initiative by the Cabildo of Tenerife to showcase the works of young artists, concluded at the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with over 8,000 visitors and the sale of a total of 1,412 pieces, including 517 originals, resulting in a collection of 35,210 euros, which marked a doubling of the amount collected in previous editions.
Serafín Mesa, the Minister of Youth and Training, highlighted that the sales proceeds go entirely to the artists and emphasised that Merkarte aims to “promote and disseminate” the work of young artists while facilitating their entry into the art market.
“This is a promotional space that encourages the sale of original work,” he remarked in a statement.
Mesa also pointed out that preparations are already underway to infuse “new vigour” into the programme, which will mark its twentieth anniversary in 2024, having experienced significant success over the past two decades.
In this edition of Merkarte 2023-2024, 40 artists, aged between 21 and 35, participated following the public call for submissions by the Cabildo of Tenerife. The categories featured in this edition were painting, sculpture, and graphic works (photography, engraving, and drawing).
