Last night, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival groups exhibited their vibrant rhythm and colourful displays during the Rhythm and Harmony contest, named after Manuel Monzón. The event, which annually draws hundreds of attendees to this unique ‘sambadrome’ in Chicharrero, saw the troupes taking over Francisco la Roche Avenue once again, showcasing their best choreographies to the beat of batucada, to the applause of the spectators.
Notably, the nine participating groups last night were Rumberos, Cariocas, Bahía Bahitiare, Danzarines Canarios, Abenaura, Tropicana, Tabajaras, Valleiros and Joroperos. Traditionally, the new Queen of Carnival 2024, Corina Mrazek González, with her fantasy El Mundo by Santi Castro, and her court’s four bridesmaids, paraded between each of the groups.
The winners would be announced at the conclusion of the contest, expected around midnight, from the stage at Plaza de La Candelaria. Along with the first, second, and third prizes, the best standard or flag would also be acknowledged. RTVE and RTVC broadcasted the Ritmo y Armonía contest live last night, ensuring regional, national, and international coverage.
It’s worth noting that Joroperos clinched the first prize for Interpretation in the Comparsas Contest at the Fairgrounds on the 3rd, followed by Cariocas (second prize), Tropicana (third), and Rumberos (second prize).
