The Cabildo, through Tenerife Tourism, has today (Saturday 10) awarded sponsorship contracts to about a hundred groups in the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The event was attended by the President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso; the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez; and the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, Dimple Melwani.
The Cabildo de Tenerife sponsors the registered groups in the Autonomous Body of Festivities of the City Council of Santa Cruz for 17 years. Since then, a total of 1,520,495 euros has been granted to the groups.
[–>This year, the 100 registered groups have received 83,020 euros. Among the sponsored groups, there are 21 adult murgas and 26 children’s murgas, 9 adult comparsas and 2 children’s comparsas, 7 rondallas, 18 choreographic groups, 9 groups of seniors, and 9 musical groups, 7 groups of laughter song and 2 lyrical groups.

Rosa Dávila thanked all the individuals representing the groups for their efforts “for being here on a Carnival Saturday, after the Parade and with events in a few hours. For next year, we are committed to making the sponsorship payment in advance to facilitate their work and also to increase the budget allocation.”
The President stated that “the groups are the best ambassadors of the Island because the Carnival of Santa Cruz is the best in the world. Their creativity, ingenuity, and devotion are worthy of admiration”.
Lope Afonso acknowledged the work carried out by the groups and mentioned that the Carnival of Santa Cruz generates economy and employment “in the hotels, in the companies of Santa Cruz, throughout the city and on the Island”, and confirmed that next year the sponsorship payment will be brought forward. Meanwhile, Dimple Melwani thanked the groups for their work and the promotion they carry out for Tenerife.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, thanked the commitment of the groups “to which 17 years ago we decided to directly help from the Cabildo – at that time it was part of the island Corporation-” and highlighted the work done by the City Council of Santa Cruz “with the deployment in matters of security, cleanliness, and health, the most important in the Canary Islands and almost in Spain. We make an effort so that the Carnival of Santa Cruz is enjoyed by the entire Island, the Canary Islands, Spain, and the rest of the world”.
