Sad News: Fran Domínguez, Deputy Editor of ‘Diario de Avisos’, Passes Away at 52


The journalism world mourns the unexpected loss of Fran Domínguez, the esteemed deputy editor of Diario de Avisos, who passed away at the age of 52 last night, as confirmed by the newspaper on Saturday.

Fran Domínguez, a La Orotava native, earned degrees in Geography and History and Information Sciences from the University of La Laguna (ULL) and dedicated the majority of his professional career to Diario de Avisos.

He commenced his tenure with the publication in late 1998, serving as the head of Society and Culture from 2007 to 2012, then as the editor-in-chief and deputy director from 2012 to 2019, before resuming his role once again during the final stage of his career.

Delving into the realm of film, Fran Domínguez provided insightful critique through his column The clapperboard and the blog I know what you saw within the pages of Diario de Avisos.

He was also an active member of the Association of Cinematographic Informants of Spain (AICE), the organization responsible for the esteemed Feroz Awards.

Beyond journalism, he also lent his expertise to institutional communication and served in the press office of the Cabildo de Tenerife from 2019 until 2021.
