The upcoming development of the El Mojón Partial Plan will pave the way for the emergence of a new city in Tenerife. This city will feature not only a residential area but also a commercial hub with a range of amenities including “three or four hotels.” Additionally, plans include the construction of a stadium and an auditorium, along with various services such as supermarkets and popular fast-food chains.
Juan Francisco Reverón Villalba, the former president of the Partial Plan Compensation Board, emphasized that this new city aims to support the expansion of the small town of Los Cristianos. He elaborated that it is not solely about the construction of hotels, but also about the development of infrastructure, including educational institutions, an auditorium, and an Olympic stadium. Moreover, a considerable road network is planned to enhance connectivity to the port, for which a significant land area has been allocated.
The Vision for the New City
The proposed city, which has yet to be named, is projected to accommodate a maximum of four hotel facilities. According to Reverón Villalba, the available land area would support the construction of around 2,000 four-star hotel units, out of a potential total of 9,000 units. He also revealed plans for an Olympic stadium to facilitate sports activities and events, along with an auditorium of comparable capacity to the one in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, catering to cultural and entertainment needs.
Several brands have already shown interest in being part of this new urban development. Lidl, a supermarket chain, is eyeing a new location within the city, while McDonald’s is among the franchises considering establishing a presence.
The city is also set to feature two expansive parks, with a combined area exceeding 50,000 square meters.
