The city council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife announced on Thursday that, starting from Friday and in light of the upcoming Carnival celebrations, there will be restrictions on traffic and parking in the streets of the Tenerife capital.
According to the council, the restrictions will commence at 7:30 p.m., preceding the commencement of the parade.
The council stated, “As is customary every year, there will be significant alterations to the city’s traffic, including street closures and parking restrictions. These measures are particularly crucial for the Announcement Parade, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Belgium Avenue.”
The carnival procession route will traverse through Plaza República Dominicana; Asunción Avenue; Ramón y Cajal streets; Galceran; Weyler Square; Méndez Núñez; Pillar; Villalba Hervás; La Marina; and Maritima Avenue.
Citizens have been urged by the council to utilise public transportation for this event and to adhere to the parking restrictions and road closures imposed due to the parade.
With regards to road closures, access to Galcerán Street in the entrance direction to the city will be restricted from 2:00 p.m.
At 3:00 p.m., the ban will also apply to Belgium Avenue and adjacent streets, for the positioning of floats and necessary infrastructure.
Later, at 5:00 p.m., Reyes Católicos Avenue will be closed from its confluence with Gilberto Cayol Street, and also from the Plaza de la Paz, towards the city’s exit, to facilitate the preparations for the Parade.
Traffic will be halted on the remaining roads along the procession route, and circulation at some crossroads will be permitted as long as the flow of spectators allows, always before the front of the Parade arrives.
For the smooth running of the Parade, parking on Madrid Avenue, from Unamuno to Belgium Avenue, will be restricted from 7:00 a.m. on Friday. The limitations will also apply to Ramón y Cajal street, between Castro and Benavides streets, and on Duggi Street, from the access to the square to Benavides Street.
The subsequent parking prohibition will be at 12:00 p.m., in this instance restricting parking on Belgium Avenue, from Comodoro Rolín Street to the Dominican Republic.
From 3:00 p.m. onwards, this measure will be extended to Ramón y Cajal street, from Asuncionistas to Alfaro street.
An hour later, at 4:00 p.m., parking will be prohibited on Miraflores Street, from La X Street to Galcerán Street; in Méndez Núñez, from Plaza de Weyler to Calle del Pilar, and throughout the entirety of the latter road.
The restrictions will be in place from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, extending throughout Villalba Hervás street; San Francisco street, located between Plaza de La Candelaria and Villalba Hervás itself; La Marina street, from Plaza de España to its junction with Bouza; in Emilio Calzadilla, from San Francisco to La Marina; Town Hall Square; General Gutiérrez Street; on Marítima Avenue, from Alameda del Duque Santa Elena to the confluence with San Sebastián Street.
Also on Francisco La Roche Avenue until its junction with Ramblas de Santa Cruz; Bravo Murillo Street, excluding the section from the direction exiting the city of San Sebastián to José Manuel Guimerá Gurrea Street; also in the section of San Sebastián Street, from Bravo Murillo to Marítima Avenue; and surroundings of Charco La Casona.
As an additional security and traffic measure, from 6:00 p.m., the Local Police will proceed to close Marítima Avenue, from the Plaza de España in the direction of entry to the city; Francisco La Roche Avenue, at the level of the surface lane that begins at the entrance to the Vía Litoral tunnel; Ni Fu Ni Fa Street, from the General Serrador Bridge; Marítima Avenue, at its junction with San Sebastián Street; and Bravo Murillo Street from that same point.
After the Carnival Quadrilateral is closed, access to the neighborhoods and towns of Anaga will be through the internal route of the dock, entering through Constitución Avenue and exiting through the Fishing Dock.
This connection will remain open to general traffic until 10:00 p.m. From that time onwards, only Anaga residents will be allowed to use this internal road. The Local Police has established various alternative routes for other parts of the city affected by the necessary closures during the Carnival.
These changes will also impact public transport. It should be noted that from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, the Tenerife Metropolitan service will only operate in the direction of the Tenerife capital, up to the stop at the Plaza de La Paz.
In addition, TITSA buses heading towards the Anaga area will also use the Port Authority’s internal route, with various temporary stops set up to facilitate their operations.
