VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 9th February (EUROPA PRESS) –
A dozen public officials and members of the Herreña Assembly have announced their withdrawal from the group on Friday, expressing that they feel “completely abandoned” by the group’s president, David Cabrera, who was recently removed from his position as vice president of the Cabildo of El Hierro.
The joint statement bears the signatures of Valverde’s mayor, Carlos Brito, the spokespeople in La Frontera and El Pinar, Marisol Quintero and Misel Álvarez, respectively, the councillors of Valverde City Council Cristina Brosed, Elizabeth Gutiérrez, Yaiza Castañeda, Juan de Dios, and Fabián Barrera, as well as the former councillors of the Cabildo Tatiana Brito and Melissa Armas.
The signatories assert that the diversity of opinions enriches a political project, and they lament that this diversity has been lost since the last local and regional elections. They state that they have not received any support or guidance regarding post-election alliances, governing activities, or opposition strategies.
Consequently, they have decided to leave the Herreña Assembly as the management “continues along the same lines” and no longer embodies the “values” that originally led to their “commitment” to the acronym.
“Henceforth, we will undertake the responsibilities of governance or opposition in the institutions where we serve with utmost dedication and effort, in order to persist in defending the interests of all the citizens we represent,” concludes the letter.
