The Judicial Investigation Court nº3 of San Cristóbal de La Laguna has issued a conviction against a dental prosthetist with a workshop in Taco, for illegally practicing the profession, imposing a fine of four months, with a daily fee of 6 euros, in addition to court costs. During the trial, the accused admitted the described actions and the penalty requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, making the sentence final.
The report, filed by the College of Dentists of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, came after hiring a private investigator, who accompanied an individual to the prosthetist’s laboratory. As indicated by the judge in his ruling, the prosthetist carried out actions reserved for dentists, such as removing and examining the upper part of a prosthesis, taking dental measurements, and selecting the color of the pieces for a new prosthesis.
The crime of professional intrusion, in accordance with the Penal Code, is classified in article 403.1º, first clause. The College of Dentists of Santa Cruz de Tenerife continues its surveillance work to protect both qualified dentists and the oral health of citizens, as practicing this profession without the proper qualifications poses a risk to patients.
Faced with this situation, the College reaffirms its call to toughen sanctions for intrusion, seeking an effective deterrent effect to prevent endangering the public’s health.
