The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, through the Autonomous Festival Organization, unveiled the schedule for the Street Carnival on Tuesday. This will encompass official Carnival events such as the Burial of the Sardine, the Announcement Parade, Rhythm and Harmony, El Coso, along with the Day and Night carnival concerts on the three stages located in the Quadrilateral. The festivities will commence on Friday, the 9th, and last until Sunday, February 18th.
The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasized their commitment to Canarian musicians, stating, “we were the first to support Canarian musicians and in these Carnivals we trust our groups again”. He also highlighted that “the hiring of Canarian orchestras will involve more than 400 musicians, in addition to the various service providers essential for the Street Carnival.”
On the other hand, the Councilor for Festivals, Javier Caraballero, highlighted the economic impact of the Carnival and expressed optimism about the reunion of carnival-goers on the streets after challenging years due to health restrictions.
Announcement Parade
The Announcement Parade will make its way through the main streets of the city center on Friday, the 9th, starting at 7:30 p.m. from Belgium Avenue and continuing through various streets until it culminates on Avenida Marítima.
On the same day, music will take centre stage at various locations, including Plaza de la Candelaria, Francisco La Roche Avenue, and Plaza del Príncipe, with a lineup of orchestras and DJ performances.
The following day, Plaza de La Candelaria and Plaza del Príncipe will host performances by murgas and orchestras, while Francisco La Roche stage will feature musical groups and DJ sets.
Additionally, a children’s stage in the Bulevar park square will showcase children’s murgas on February 10 and 12.
Sunday Carnival Day
Sunday, the 11th, will be dedicated to the Day Carnival, with stages at Plaza de la Candelaria and Plaza del Príncipe featuring performances by various artists and orchestras.
Activities will continue on Monday, the 12th, with music, murgas, and orchestra performances in Plaza de la Candelaria and Plaza del Príncipe, along with choreographic groups at Francisco La Roche.
The following days will also see performances by Ni Fú Ni Fá, Los Fregolinos, Dorada Band, Acapulco Orchestra, and more, as part of the Burial of the Sardine programming.
Friday, the 16th, known as Piñata Friday, will feature the CarnaDrag in Plaza de La Candelaria, with subsequent orchestra performances in Plaza del Príncipe and Francisco La Roche.
Saturday Carnival Day
Saturday, the 17th, festivities will intensify with uninterrupted music at Plaza de La Candelaria, performances by COPE Network in Plaza del Príncipe, and international artist performances at the Francisco La Roche stage.
The Carnival will culminate on Sunday, the 18th, with the Senior Carnival in Plaza de La Candelaria and traditional concerts in Plaza del Príncipe.
