The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is set to commence tomorrow, leading to anticipated traffic changes including road closures and parking restrictions.

The Announcement Parade on Friday will kick off at 7:30 p.m. from Belgium Avenue, following a route that covers Plaza República Dominicana, Avenida de la Asunción, Ramón y Cajal streets, Galcerán, Plaza Weyler, Méndez Núñez, Pilar, Villalba Hervás, La Marina and Avenida Marítima.

Nearly a hundred Local Police officers, in collaboration with Civil Protection personnel and a significant health support team from the Spanish Red Cross, will ensure the security of the first act of the Carnival.

Street Closures

Galcerán Street will be inaccessible in the entrance direction to the city from 2:00 p.m. onwards.

At 3:00 p.m., Belgium Avenue and adjacent streets will be closed for the positioning of floats and necessary infrastructure.

Subsequently, at 5:00 p.m., Reyes Católicos Avenue will be blocked from its confluence with Gilberto Cayol Street, along with Plaza de la Paz, in the direction out of the city, to facilitate preliminary work for the Parade.

Road closures will progressively take place along the procession route. However, the circulation will be allowed on certain transversal roads before the Parade arrives, depending on the public influx. Notably, new anti-intrusion barriers will be deployed at specific locations for enhanced security.

Parking Restrictions

Starting at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, parking will be prohibited on Madrid Avenue, from Unamuno to Belgium Avenue; Ramón y Cajal street, between Castro and Benavides streets; and on Duggi Street, from the access to the square to Benavides Street.

Subsequent parking restrictions will be implemented at 12:00 p.m. on Belgium Avenue, from Comodoro Rolín Street to the Dominican Republic.

From 3:00 p.m. onwards, parking will be prohibited on Ramón y Cajal street, from Asuncionistas to Alfaro street. This measure will be extended to other streets at later timings.

From 5:00 p.m. on Friday, parking restrictions will be applicable to various streets, including Villalba Hervás street, San Francisco street, La Marina street, Emilio Calzadilla, Town Hall Square, General Gutiérrez Street, Marítima Avenue, Francisco La Roche avenue, Bravo Murillo Street, San Sebastián Street, and surroundings of Charco La Casona.

Closure of the Carnival Quadrilateral

As an additional security and traffic measure, from 6:00 p.m., certain avenues and streets will be closed, restricting access. However, an internal route for the neighborhoods and towns of Anaga will remain accessible until 10:00 p.m., afterwards only allowing residents to circulate.

The Local Police has devised alternative itineraries for other affected areas of the city necessitating cuts during the Carnival.

Impact on Public Transport

These modifications will also impact public transport. From 6:00 p.m., the Tenerife Metropolitan service will only operate up to the stop at the Plaza de La Paz, towards the Tenerife capital. TITSA buses heading towards the Anaga area will adopt specific provisional stops via the Port Authority’s internal route.

Regarding taxis, specific stops will be arranged close to the Quadrilateral area to manage the impact and facilitate commuting.
