The leader of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, stated yesterday that Teide “is the shining jewel of Tenerife, and that is why we have doubled the investment in the national park for this year.” Specifically, Dávila explained that in 2023, the PSOE allocated 3,505,721 million euros for investments, while the new insular Government of CC and PP “is set to invest a total of 6,594,682 euros for this year.” During the commemoration of an exceptional plenary session on the ascent to the peak of Teide by the influencer David Cánovas, better known as TheGrefg, the island president explained that “we are in the process of reopening the Altavista Shelter this year, a facility that the PSOE closed.”
“While this Government will reopen the Altavista Shelter, it has installed an SOS button and a logistics point to ensure security, as you intended to restrict the rights of Tenerife residents with the PRUG,” Dávila reproached the PSOE. The president also explained that “there is no irregularity in David Cánovas’ climb to Teide, as attested by the different reports from the director of the Teide National Park, the Environmental agent who accompanied the island director, Pedro Millán, and the reports of the Cable Car.”
“The PSOE wanted to hold this plenary session to read the reports that have already been reported in the different sessions and plenary commissions,” stated Dávila, who made it clear that “there is no public money investment in the visit of David Cánovas, but there is in the celebration of this exceptional plenary session.” A statement reinforced by the CC spokesperson, José Miguel Ruano.
“You have left Teide unprotected for four years,” said the president, who recounted various actions that occurred during the previous mandate, such as a chop on June 28, 2019, the painting of a huge graffiti on October 26, 2021, playing soccer on January 1, 2022, what happened with the Asics company that promoted running through a protected space, or what happened with Carlos Checa.”
The PP spokesperson, José Carlos Acha, expressed similar sentiments. “Today we are not here to discuss the conservation of the park, future planning, or the Altavista Refuge, but to talk about a YouTuber – we are clearly at two levels of interest,” he said.
Likewise, he affirmed that “it has been proven that there were no irregularities and this has been reiterated in the commissions. The cable car operated, Teide was not closed, nothing had been decreed in the Special Protection Plan, and the exploitation and evacuation plans were complied with,” he reiterated.
