The Los Realejos City Council has allocated 503,000 euros this year to social assistance, including emergency social aid, housing rental aid, aid for the elderly, aid for persons with disabilities, and aid to cover housing rehabilitation costs, the latter in agreement with the Tenerife Island Council,» in addition to the subsidies allocated annually to various social projects and entities.
In accordance with the provisions of current state regulations, these calls for aid from the Los Realejos City Council are approved and published in advance in the National Subsidies Database.
For emergency social aid and aid of extreme urgency, applications can be submitted permanently, subject in any case to the availability of budget appropriations.
Elderly

The Los Realejos City Council repeats this direct support initiative for the elderly year after year, which in recent years has reached around 60 elderly persons in each call, demonstrating its necessity and effectiveness», as highlighted by the mayor, who announced that “applications for this 2024 call can be submitted until March 1st.”
Adolfo González argued that “the aging process affects physical, psychological, and sensory conditions, as well as social and economic conditions, and there the public administrations must do everything in their power to address or mitigate its effects».
In this case, the aid can be used to cover expenses for meals or food purchases, home repair and improvement costs, replacement of household goods and furniture to alleviate their own tasks, expenses related to rehabilitation treatments or acquisition of prosthetics not covered by the Canarian Health Service, or transportation expenses for transfers to senior centers, rehabilitation or care that are not covered by such services, as stipulated in the guidelines.
Rent

Until March 1st, the deadline for applying for rental aid is also open, which the Los Realejos City Council has once again announced for a total amount of 150,000 euros. The mayor explained that “these aids in recent years have been received by around 120 beneficiary families in each call.”
González explained that “this municipal initiative aims to contribute to covering the monthly costs of housing rents for those family units with scarce resources that, under a rental scheme, meet the requirements explicitly stated in the approved and published guidelines in the Provincial Official Gazette».
The Realejos municipal government reported that “for more information about this municipal social aid call, interested parties can contact the Social Welfare offices of the Los Realejos City Council or go to the Zone Social Work Units (UTS) located in the areas of La Cruz Santa, Palo Blanco, La Montaña, Icod el Alto, and Toscal Longuera.”
