Eleven Contenders Vie for Carnival Queen Title

The Fairgrounds of Santa Cruz of Tenerife are set to host the 2024 Carnival Queen Election Gala this Wednesday, commencing at 9:30 p.m. The event, expected to last around two and a half hours, will see eleven candidates take center stage in a show featuring Carnival groups and murgas. Notably, the guest star for the evening will be the singer Mónica Naranjo.

The grand opening will see almost 1,000 people take the stage at the Fairgrounds, delving into the influence of television—this year’s thematic inspiration for the festivities. The performers will infuse television entertainment as the backdrop theme and pay tribute to Carnival’s tradition and its groups.

Additionally, the Gala will feature the participation of the Puerto Rican artist Tony Tun Tun, who will offer a teaser of his concert in the Plaza de La Candelaria on February 16. The Gala’s hosts will be Eloísa González and Elvis Sanfiel.

The jury responsible for selecting the new Carnival Queen and her four bridesmaids will comprise Barbara Rey, an actress and presenter; Arón Morales Pérez, an illustrator and winner of the 2024 Carnival Poster; Héctor León León, a film and theater costume designer; Alberto Dugarte, a renowned makeup director for film and television known as The Celebrity Makeup Artist; Alejandro Tosco Castro, a Fine Arts graduate and president of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife; Patricia Yurena Rodríguez, an illustrator artist and Miss Spain 2008; Nieves Bravo, an actress known for her role as Panchita in the program In Another Key on Canarian Television; Desirée Hernández, the host of the program 25 Degrees on Canarian Television; Marlene Mourreau, a presenter, actress, and vedette; Jorge Moreno, a journalist from the program Party on Telecinco; Tania Betancor, an aesthetic doctor and director of the Tania Betancor Clinic; and Roberto Herrera, a journalist and director of the program Near you on TVE in the Canary Islands.

Televisión Canaria will broadcast the show live across the entire Archipelago, while TVE will offer a live broadcast for all of Spain through La 2. The coverage will be extended globally by TVE Internacional. The doors to the Fairgrounds will open to the public at 8:00 p.m.
