An investment of almost 700,00 euros will enhance the services provided at five out of the eight recycling points that currently make up the island’s network.
The Tenerife Island Council, through the Department of Natural Environment and Sustainability, approved the bidding of the contract for the works included in the Improvement Execution Projects in the existing infrastructures in Jagua (Santa Cruz), Las Torres de Taco (La Laguna), Polígono de Güímar, Armeñime (Adeje) and Los Pasitos (Buenavista del Norte). This is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union-Next GenerationEU, with an investment of nearly 699,000 euros, specifically reaching 698,974.
The councilor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergency of the Tenerife Island Council, Blanca Pérez, stated that “waste management is a priority for us, and as a result of that commitment, we are developing a series of actions ranging from the improvement of these five recycling points, to the construction of two new ones in Arico and Los Rodeos, the new fleet of transfer trucks, and the strong investment of nine million euros for research and development projects in the circular economy.” This last action will be carried out in the island’s university and technological centers.
On the other hand, the Island Director of Waste, Alejandro Molowny, explains that this investment “will allow the improvement of the infrastructures and services of the mentioned recycling points.” Among these actions, the control booth, low-voltage electrical installations, water supply, rainwater drainage, fire protection, telecommunications physical supports, security and access systems, as well as the computer platform, stand out.
One of the improvements is the control booths that will include an information office. It proposes a rectangular building, 24 meters long, 4 wide and a height of 3.60 meters.

Fire Protection
[–>
The fire protection system will be installed in compliance with the regulations. Taking into account the location in relation to its surroundings and the level of inherent risk of the recycling point, only the installation of mobile fire extinguishers will be required.
Other Installations
[–>
This action includes access to basic telephony with provision for Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), the reception of television and radio signals of the terrestrial and satellite type, in their analog and/or digital modalities. The objectives of the security system through an alarm and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) is to identify the intruder, deter potential aggressors by feeling watched, reduce physical risks for the staff, and instantly verify the cause of an alarm.
Computer Platform
[–>
The integration of the Logistics Centre into an Island Waste Computer Platform is planned, as well as the installation of a surveillance system connected to an autonomous video recorder with coverage in at least the upper and lower platform accesses and in the container transfer area (lower platform).
Expanding the Island Network
[–>
The current network of clean points consists of eight infrastructures distributed throughout the island. In the medium term, it is planned to double it and this path begins this year with the first two planned at the Environmental Complex of Tenerife (CAT), located in Arico and Los Rodeos (La Laguna). Another novelty in 2024 is that they will start opening on Mondays, as until now they were open from Tuesday to Sunday. This measure is a result of the demand from user citizens.
Eight Throughout the Island

These are the eight operational clean points located throughout the island’s geography: the Metropolitan Area, the North, and the South. In Adeje, it is located at the Armeñime Crossroad and in the municipality of Arona, at Malpaso de Guaza. Towards the northern slope, the clean point in Buenavista is located in the Los Pasitos industrial estate. Also, it is in the space of economic activity of the southern Valley’s secondary sector where the Güímar infrastructure is located. The ascent road to La Guancha hosts the municipality’s clean point and in La Laguna, there is the Las Torres de Taco, on the General Road of La Cuesta. The San Jerónimo Industrial Estate is home to the La Orotava waste collection center. Finally, the ravine of Jagua, on the highway to San Andrés, houses the clean point of the capital, Santa Cruz.
