The new healthcare centre in Llano del Camello, located in San Miguel de Abona municipality, has been completed three years after its scheduled date. On Thursday, regional, island, and municipal authorities will visit the site, along with representatives from the construction company, Proyecon Galicia SA.
The new health facility will cater to a population of nearly 10,000 residents from the areas of San Miguel, Las Chafiras, Golf del Sur, Amarilla Golf, and San Blas.
This achievement follows the announcement made last month by the mayor of the southern municipality, Arturo González, who has been advocating for expedited progress on the works due to the centre’s crucial importance for a region that has experienced significant population growth in recent decades.
Previously, residents from the lower part of the municipality received healthcare in inadequate temporary facilities at the Farmer’s Market. The new infrastructure, situated on a 3,700 square meter plot provided by the City Council on Lucio Díaz Flores Avenue, will feature four family medicine consultations and the same number of nursing consultations, two for pediatrics and two for children’s nursing, in addition to a waiting room and toilet facilities.
Furthermore, it will include a breastfeeding room, an emergency area with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation room, a treatment and sample collection room, as well as a women’s care area with a midwife consultation and a space for maternal education.
The construction began in February 2019 after being awarded to the company Proyecon Galicia SA for a completion period of 17 months. The company requested a modification of the project, leading to a variation in the initial budget for the work (1,818,898 euros), 85% of which was financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
