The debut day of the IX César Manrique Trophy for the international Optimist class, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Reef, with the sponsorship of Caixabank, Plata y Reguera Odontología Avanzada, and Naviera Armas – Trasmediterránea.
Commencing at 10:00, 105 participants set sail, encountering wind speeds ranging from 6 to 9 knots blowing steadily from the East.
The initial day saw the completion of three scheduled races, with Alba Ponce (RCNGC) clinching victory in the first race, and Manuel Florido securing wins in the remaining two races.
Mateo Roa (RCN Arrecife) improved to second place in the second test, after finishing 7th in the first race. He repeated this feat in the third race, propelling him to the top of the leaderboard. Following Roa’s lead were Unai Ugarte (CD Code Cero) and Francisco Guindín (RCN Gran Canaria), completing the provisional podium for men’s sub 16. In the female sub 16 category, Marta Mansito (RCN Tenerife) took the lead, with Lili María Skomska from RCN Gran Canaria and Alba Ponce from sub 13 category following closely. Leading the sub 13 category, Alba Ponce from Club Marítimo Varadero was followed by María Guindín and Myrian Merino.
Alfonso Garcías from Real Club Náutico de Arrecife emerged as the male under 13 leader, followed by Santiago Pérez (RCN Tenerife) and Gonzalo Presa (CD Code Cero).
Following the three races, Real Club Náutico de Arrecife hosted a replenishing meal featuring Kalise ice creams, Tirma Ambrosias, and an assortment of JC fruits for dessert.
The final day will feature three more races to conclude the IX César Manrique Trophy, a scoring event for the Canary team of the Optimist class, which will represent the Archipelago in the Spanish Cup and Championship.
The event, organized by Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, is recognized by the RFEV and the RFCV, with the institutional support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and the Arrecife City Council through their respective Sports and Tourism departments. The event is collaboratively supported by Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa, Tirma Kalise, Frutas JC Viñas, and Renault Lanzarote and Fuerteventura Juan Toledo, SL.
