The Gran Canaria Team emerged as the champions of the inaugural Tournament of Canarian Wrestling, Isabel Lozano, held at the Arinaga Crossing Land in the municipality of Agüimes. The tournament featured women’s teams from various islands in the cadet category.
After successfully navigating the group stage with two victories against La Palma (25-7) and Tenerife (14-20), the team, guided by María Ramírez and Ana Santana, advanced to the semi-finals against Fuerteventura. The Gran Canarian team, demonstrating superiority over their opponents from Fuerteventura (28-7), advanced to compete in the final against Tenerife, who had triumphed over the island of Lanzarote (4-24).
With the stands filled with spectators, the two teams displayed a keen desire for victory from the initial stages. The Gran Canaria National Team took the lead, with significant contributions from fighters such as Laura Eseazor and Valeria Lajo, reaching 2-5. Just when a comfortable victory for the Gran Canarian team seemed likely, Tenerife exhibited their determination and commitment, narrowing the score to 6-8.
However, during the critical moments of the contest, the Gran Canaria team asserted their dominance. The victories of Adriana Gonzalez and Yumara Mel proved pivotal in securing the 13-16 final score.
This historic triumph of the Gran Canaria team in the inaugural edition of the tournament once again highlighted the flourishing state of Canarian Wrestling in the archipelago.
