The endorsement took place at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz in Tenerife. The event saw the participation of the president of the Administration Council of the Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM), Paula Cristina de Araújo Dias Cabaço da Silva; the president of the Port Authority of The Palms, Beatriz Calzada; the president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pedro Suarez; the president of the Cape Verde Ports Administration Council (ENAPOR), Ireneu Rosa by Azevedo Camacho; and the president of the Administration Council of Ports of the Azores Islands, Rui Filipe da Silva Pereira da Terra.
The president of APRAM formally extended the invitation to the Azores and presented it to the other members of the CAI for their integration at this stage. Paula Cabaço indicated: “The CAI meeting in Tenerife stands out for another historical moment that is recorded with the official entry of the Ports of the Azores Islands as a new member of the Association”, and noted: “All the representatives of the Port Authorities applaud this fact, which makes it possible to close the cycle of incorporation of the different Atlantic archipelagos. It should be noted that important points emerge from this meeting that allow us to define the steps towards the future, with “a focus on an intense promotion and marketing plan and with clear objectives to be met even this year”.
Nearly three million travellers
The organization aims to advance and promote cruise tourism in the Atlantic Islands, which currently represents a combined market of nearly three million passengers, while strengthening the position of the harbours that are part of the association in the Atlantic corridor to access new markets and promote existing routes.
Cruise Atlantic Islands is devising collaborative strategies to secure community funding, which will facilitate joint projects to enhance connectivity and drive economic growth of the Mid-Atlantic islands.
