SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Two canoes carrying 149 individuals arrived on the island of El Hierro last night, after departing from a location on the sub-Saharan coast several days ago, as per sources from Maritime Rescue.
The first canoe rescued 60 sub-Saharan individuals, all men with the exception of one woman. The second canoe carried 89 sub-Saharan individuals, including 3 women.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., the Civil Guard notified the Maritime Rescue Center in Tenerife about the presence of two canoes sailing 10 miles south of La Restinga.
The Adhara sea rescuer was mobilized and by around 10:00 p.m., it had reached the first canoe and undertaken the rescue operation.
Subsequently, it proceeded to the location of the second canoe and escorted it to the port, where the disembarkation process commenced at approximately 11:15 p.m.
Upon reaching land, the individuals received assistance from health personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and volunteers from the Red Cross. No transfers to health centers were deemed necessary.
