A man of 27 years old was severely wounded early on Wednesday after causing a direct impact on the southern highway (TF-1), in the municipality of Adeje, while driving under the influence of alcohol and in the opposite direction.
The accident occurred at 5:00 a.m., at kilometer 81.5 of the mentioned road, near the Los Menores neighborhood, according to information provided by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) of the Canary Islands Government.
The young individual was driving a Renault Arkana and mistakenly entered the highway heading towards Santiago del Teidebut in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
At that point, the driver collided with a Citroen Berlingo driven by a 46-year-old woman.
Officers from the Reporting Team of the Civil Traffic Guard discovered that the individual’s alcohol level was higher than 0.65 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air. This led to the individual being charged with a crime against road safety.
The 1-1-2 emergency center received notification of the accident and promptly deployed various security and emergency resources, including four ambulances from the Canary Emergency Service (one medicalized, one sanitized, and two basic life support), Tenerife Consortium firefighters with two heavy urban pump (BUP) trucks, several Civil Traffic Guard patrols, and road maintenance personnel.
The young man was trapped inside his Renault Arkana and had to be rescued by firefighters. Once stabilized, he was transported to the Emergency Department of the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital with severe injuries. The woman suffered moderate head injuries and was taken to Hospiten Sur.
