The Department of Education at Arona City Council has put forward various propositions to the Department of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands in order to foster and enhance educational infrastructure. On one hand, there will be a series of enhancements made to the existing schools and institutes, and on the other hand, there will be the establishment of new educational centers to meet the demands of Arona: a Special Education Center and another Vocational Training Center.
The mayor, Fátima Lemes, emphasized that “the cooperation we receive and the collaborative work with the Ministry of Education will bring about a substantial and necessary improvement in Arona and the southern part of the Island.” The councilor highlighted the near-term establishment of both centers as infrastructure “that has been long overdue. “We are confident that during this term, the Ministry will push these forward.”
Héctor Reyes, Councilor for Education, pointed out the smooth dialogue with the Education “as we are in agreement with the priorities of the educational community of Arona.” He affirmed that “there are already solid proposals on the table that we hope will be addressed” by the regional Ministry.
One of the points discussed in the meeting is the absence of shaded areas in certain municipalities, a provision that will receive priority in Las Galletas, for instance.
The local government stated that Arona has shown a strong willingness to accommodate a Vocational Training Center and another Special Education Center. Furthermore, according to Reyes, the land for both is already earmarked. “We are proposing to transfer and make public land available to set up an Integrated Vocational Training Center in the heart of Los Cristianos, next to the IES Ichasagua.” The councilor asserted that “Arona, being the third most populous municipality in Tenerife, due to its strategic location and considering current and future demographic growth, “needs a center of this nature to cater to present and future training needs, thereby enhancing the municipality’s quality.”
Given the absence of a Special Education Center in the municipality, the local government has proposed to the regional government the allocation of land for its construction in Cho-Parque de la Reina, an area with high growth projections. “We believe that establishing a facility of this kind for Arona and the region is of utmost importance,” defended the Aron councilor.
During the meeting, the Aron municipal government also raised the necessity to proceed with the planned expansion of the Arona and Los Cristianos institutes. Simultaneously, the council is actively seeking a plot of land to house a new educational infrastructure in the town of El Fraile, “with the hope that it will contribute to realizing the goal of fostering the quality of education, as envisioned by the Arona City Council,” concluded the Councilor for Education, Héctor Reyes.
