Yesterday, the Executive Board of the Tenerife Cabildo sanctioned the allocation to the Güímar City Council of the administration of the action stated in the Island Cooperation Plan for the construction of the Los Tarajales wastewater pumping station, in El Puertito, and its connection to the regional Edaru. This project is budgeted at a total of 6,937,994.66 euros, with the Cabildo funding 1,467,000 euros, the City Council contributing 366,750 euros, and the Insular Water Council providing 5,104,244.66 euros.

“The project defines and evaluates the necessary works for the construction of a wastewater pumping station (EBAR) at the current location of the Los Tarajales WWTP, accessible via the Las Bajas road, next to the Puertito de Güímar Nautical Club, as well as the required conduit to transport the sewage flow to the regional Edaru of Valle de Güímar,” explained vice president, Lope Afonso. “The 2024 budget approved in today’s agreement will allocate 400,000 euros for the commencement of the work this year, which is expected to conclude in 2026, with financing spanning multiple years,” Afonso added. Island president, Rosa Dávila, elaborated that “this is a very significant undertaking in which the Cabildo provides 90% of the resources, as an investment of this magnitude could not be solely borne by the city councils.”

Güímar’s mayor, Gustavo Pérez, affirmed that “continuing measures are being taken to convey wastewater to the regional treatment facility.” Additionally, he revealed that “the pumping station, which will transfer the liquid from the center of Güímar to the Edaru, will be operational soon, and following the step taken today in the Cabildo, we will sign the new agreement to transform the Los Tarajales station in Puertito into a pumping station, thereby preventing the discharge of the liquid into the sea. “These are significant strides towards ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable coastline.”

Projects in Arico

Likewise, the Governing Council approved the amendment of the Island Cooperation Plans for Works and Services of Municipal Competence regarding the planned actions for Arico, particularly the construction of the municipal supply network in the urban center of Arico Viejo, totaling 2,659,282.33 euros, as well as the sanitation project in the coastal region of Arico, which will require an investment of 1,579,946.03 euros.
